Things you should never put on your face

Why the face is delicate?

Facial skin is more sensitive to hormonal changes in the body. Some of our skin problems come from the hormone androgen, which can cause the skin to produce more or less sebum (oil) (skin produces sebum through small glands located in each pore of the face). These skin problems occur more often in the facial skin because the face has the highest number of sebaceous glands per square inch. If these glands produce too much sebum it will cause oily skin and acne, if glands produce too little sebum, your skin will become dry and sensitive. That’s why your face requires it’s own product to take care of it.
Since the face is sensitive, how do you to take care of it?

How to take care of the face

  • Wash your face twice a day (no more) with warm water and a mild soap made for people with acne. Gently massage your face with circular motions. Don’t scrub. Overwashing and scrubbing can cause skin to become irritated. After cleansing, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends applying an over-the-counter (no prescription needed) lotion containing benzoyl peroxide.
  • Don’t pop pimples. It’s tempting, but here’s why you shouldn’t: Popping pimples can push infected material further into the skin, leading to more swelling and redness, and even scarring. If you notice a pimple coming before a big event, like the prom, a dermatologist can often treat it for you with less risk of scarring or infection.
  • Avoid touching your face with your fingers or leaning your face on objects that collect sebum and skin residue like your phone. Touching your face can spread the bacteria that cause pores to become inflamed and irritated. To keep bacteria at bay, wash your hands before applying anything to your face, such as treatment creams or makeup.
  • If you wear glasses or sunglasses, make sure you clean them frequently to keep oil from clogging the pores around your eyes and nose.
  • If you get acne on your body, try not to wear tight clothes. They don’t allow skin to breathe and may cause irritation. Scarves, headbands, and caps can collect dirt and oil, too.
  • Remove your makeup before you go to sleep. When buying makeup, make sure you choose brands that say “noncomedogenic” or “nonacnegenic” on the label. Throw away old makeup that smells or looks different from when you first bought it.
  • Keep hair clean and out of your face to prevent additional dirt and oil from clogging your pores.
  • Protect your skin from the sun. It may seem like a tan masks acne, but it’s only temporary. A tan may worsen your acne, not improve it. Tanning also causes damage to skin that will eventually lead to wrinkles and increase your risk of skin cancer.
7 things you should never put on your face

1.Hair spray
2.Deodorant
3.Toothpaste
4.Lemon juice
5.Sugar
6.Baking Soda
7.Hot water

1. Hair Spray: You may have heard somewhere that it will help set your makeup, but it should NEVER be applied to your face because it contains lacquers and alcohol that will dry our your skin, causing your skin to become dehydrated and you to look older.

Plus, hair spray has repellents in it that could irritate your skin, leaving it red and bumpy.

2. Deodorant: Just because it keeps your underarms from sweating through your shirt does not mean it should be swiped over any area of your face that might perspire in hopes of keeping your makeup from melting down your face.

You want your skin to be able to breathe. It’s doing what it needs to for a reason, and you don’t need to stop it. If you want to learn how to keep your makeup in place when temperatures rise.Read this

3.Toothpaste: Most beauty websites will suggest you apply toothpaste on a pimple as a quick remedy to dry it out. But toothpaste can increase melanin production and form discolouration and dark spots on the areas where it was applied.

Mint is a common ingredient used in toothpaste which can further irritate the skin and cause blemishes.

4.Lemon juice: Dermatologist Dr. Doris Day told CNN, “Citrus fruits, like lemons, can irritate skin.” Why? She explained, “Lemons have a chemical called psoralen, and the psoralen makes you exquisitely sensitive to light.

It activates in about 10 to 15 minutes, and it takes about 24 hours to wear off. So if you do that, and go out in the sun, you can actually blister.”

5.Sugar: of us already know that eating too much sugar can lead to breakouts and other skin problems. But many of us don’t realize using sugar as a face scrub is just as harmful. Sugar crystals are hard and have sharp edges.

These sharp edges can cut anything that is sufficiently delicate, especially the skin on your face. Therefore you want to avoid your face being exposed to a rough grain-like sugar.

6.Baking Soda:You may have heard baking soda is a cheap scrub to get clear skin, but you should know something about pH. PH is a value that runs from 0 to 14, where substances approaching either end of the scale (toward 0 or 14) are corrosive and can burn your beautiful skin. Water has a (neutral) pH of 7, and your skin has a pH of about 4.5-5.0. The pH of baking soda by contrast is 9. While for most people (about 90% of the population) baking soda is perfectly safe to use elsewhere on your body (such as your underarms) your face is a different story.

Such a high pH is likely to damage the delicate skin on your face, causing irritation and dryness.

7.Hot water:While getting a steam facial is fine, hot water should not touch your face directly.

Most people find it relaxing and comfortable especially during winter but hot water will strip the moisture off your skin and make it stretchy and dry.Always use lukewarm water to wash your face to maintain a healthy pH balance and keep your skin supple and nourished.
All the 7 things mentioned above are not suitable for the face, however you can still make use of some facial treatments.
